The 3 Crabs restaurant is celebrating 53 years. To commemorate the special event, owner Norma Marshall opened Randy’s Place, a family sports pub dining area, Friday, Feb. 3. Customers were treated to extended hours, live entertainment and cake the entire weekend.
Randy’s Place, an extension off the bar, is named after Randy Lehman, the brother-in-law of longtime waitress Mary Lehman. The room features ample seating and multiple big-screen TVs. The “pub grub” menu includes a variety of fish, oyster, clam and calamari baskets, a barbecue riblet hoagie and buffalo chicken fingers.
All items are accompanied with either tater tots or french fries and the customer’s choice of beer.
Randy Lehman, 51, died in his sleep from natural causes Dec. 9, 2010. He was known by all of the employees and several of the customers as a beverage merchandiser at a local distributing company. He graduated from Sequim High School in 1977 and worked at his family’s grocery store for years before it closed in 2001.
In his free time, Randy Lehman enjoyed sport fishing and crabbing. He also loved sports, primarily baseball, football and basketball, Mary Lehman said.
“He always wanted us to do this,” added Marshall about expanding the restaurant with a sports pub.
Marshall is hoping the pub will attract new customers. Live entertainment will be a regular occurrence, she said.
“There are 93-plus eating spots in Sequim from Dupuis’ to the 7 Cedars Casino,” Marshall said. “It’s important for us to keep it real (because) if this restaurant goes out of business, nothing like it will ever re-open.”
The 3 Crabs overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and serves fresh, local seafood cooked to order. The walls of the eatery are lined with old photographs of the Dungeness. The descriptions below the pictures are a history lesson in themselves.
Making reservations in advance is extremely important, Marshall added. The restaurant often closes early to cut back on unnecessary expenses if nobody is scheduled to come in and eat.
