Dave Blake, owner of Blake Tile and Stone, accepted the Kiwanis Business of the Month Award from Shell McGuire, the club’s arrangements chairman, at a recent meeting.

Blake spoke about the early history of his family in Sequim and the origin in 1953 of Blake Sand and Gravel.

The business evolved to include Blake Tile and Stone, with locations in Sequim and Port Angeles. The businesses currently have 25 employees, five at the sand and gravel pit on Cays Road. The average tenure of the employees is 16 years. They offer design assistance and landscape supplies, along with sand and gravel. The Blake family has long been involved with Sequim community activities with donations of labor and supplies for many public locations.
