The sun is shining on Reef Tanning’s new owner, Mandy Gallacci.

The Port Angeles native took over Nov. 15 from the business’ original owner, Joe McLaughlin.

Gallacci was a server for 22 years at Café Garden in Port Angeles before purchasing Spotlight Tanning & Apparel, 715 E. First St., Port Angeles, about two years ago.

McLaughlin approached her about buying Reef and she fell in love with the building and business.

Gallacci said tanning has become her passion since starting in the business.

Reef offers eight top-of-the-line Ergoline tanning beds, ranging in intensity for novice to advanced tanners. They also do spray-on tans with an organic product that doesn’t leave the skin orange or streaky, Gallacci said.

Prices on tanning were lowered significantly, she said, almost half of what they were previously.

New specials include half-price tanning on Sunday for all beds and a Happy Hour from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday with $2 off all tanning beds.

She’s also offering $10 off any unlimited package for new clients.

Other upcoming additions include more apparel, purses, which are her No. 1 seller, name brand jeans and top-of-the-line lotions, including 2012 products from brands like Designer Skin and Devoted Creations.

Gallacci employs Chelsie Jung and Lindsay Merrell, who say they have a diverse clientele including many customers over 40.

Jung said customers not only come in for darker skin, but for treatment of eczema, psoriasis and vitamin D deficiency. Some say it helps with Seasonal Affective Disorder, too, a type of depression linked to a decrease in sunlight during fall and winter.

Reef Tanning, 10159 Old Olympic Highway, is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Reach the store at 683-2200.
