The end of the month is here and summer has turned into fall already.
Stacks of stuff on the old desk, so here we go ...
Lacrosse happenings
When the Port Angeles school district dropped its lacrosse sports program at end of the 2009 season, the Olympic Mountaineers North Olympic Lacrosse Club was formed. It has some big plans.
With players from Port Angeles and Sequim, the Mountaineers wound up 8-5 in their first season and qualified for the playoffs.
The club is recruiting players for next spring as many high school seniors graduated. Any boy or girl in grades 7-12 is welcome to try out. One-hour, early evening indoor sessions are planned for Port Angeles and Sequim beginning mid-October. The play will go six weeks, culminating with a P.A. versus Sequim scrimmage.
Next up will be forming a junior high team as the club recently received a grant to outfit the younger kids with shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, sticks and gear for a goalie.
This will help make a feeder program and plans for teams of youths in grades 5-6 and 3-4 are on the table.

Auto racing heats up
The end of the season is here for the cars that motor around the Port Angeles Speedway oval and general manager Bert Johnson hopes more fans show up for this weekend's championship races for hobby stock and stock car championships.
I was at the speedway last week but most of the fans were disguised as empty seats. Johnson told me auto racing around the state is sadly down in attendance and down in the number of cars competing.
I'm thinking the season probably starts too early and probably should end in early September.
Final weekend is Oct. 16, when the crash-to-pass guys and gals have their final survivor race.
Memo to U.W. football:
Hope you didn't watch the USC game at Washington State. The Trojans destroyed the Cougars quite easily and they are ready for you in Los Angeles this Saturday.
