‘Magic of Cinema’ brings films, filmmakers to P.C.

Peninsula College’s Magic of Cinema film series returns Jan. 18 for a winter season of seven Friday night films from many corners of the globe, including the Olympic Peninsula.

 

All films start at 7 p.m. in Maier Performance Hall on the Port Angeles main campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Admission is $5, free with current student ID.

 

The schedule includes the following films:

• Jan. 18: “La Misma Luna”: A Mexican boy travels to the U.S. to find his mother. A discussion with Visiting Professor Paloma Toledo de la Torre and Madrid journalist Anselmo Mancebo follows.

 

• Jan. 25: “Purab Aur Pacchim”: A young Indian man goes to study in London.

 

• Feb. 1: “Go Ganges!” Two friends travel the ultimate river.

 

• Feb. 8: “Who We Are” and “The Harvest”: Two films on migrant life are followed by a discussion with the student filmmakers of “Who We Are.”

 

• Feb. 15: “Bringing King to China”: adapting Martin Luther King Jr.’s message for modern China.

 

• Feb. 22: “River as Spirit: Rebirth of the Elwha.” A discussion with filmmakers follows the screening.

 

• March 1: “Princess Angelina”: the story of Chief Seattle’s daughter. Discussion with Makah filmmaker Sandra Osawa follows.
