One of the 38 new Washington State Patrol troopers sworn in Jan. 30 was assigned to the Port Angeles detachment of District 8.
Trooper Casey Corey of Raymond is a graduate of South Bend High School and Centralia Community College.
District 8 also gained an additional trooper, Matt Black of Moscow, Idaho, who transferred from Kelso to the Homeland Security Division working with the Washington State Ferry system. He is a graduate of Moscow High School and Ricks College.
All 38 troopers were sworn in by state Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerry Alexander. Besides Corey, other troopers were assigned to District 8, which covers Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson, Clallam, Pacific, Grays Harbor and Wahkiakum counties.
These troopers began their new assignments on Feb. 1 with a meeting at the Bremerton District office.
There they met the command staff and became familiar with Washington State Patrol procedures.
After completing more than 1,000 hours of training, these troopers became a part of Washington's premier law enforcement organization.
