Sing out for health care

Anne Feeney, a longtime Pittsburgh-based agitator, is singing for a cause she feels strongly about: national, single-payer health care.
At 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, Feeney will perform at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, as part of her "Sing Out for Single Payer Road Show."
The performance is a collaborative effort organized by the Green Party of Clallam County, Veterans for Peace, the Clallam County Democratic Party
and Reform Health Care Now!
Admission is by donation.
Port Angeles is just one of more than 20 stops on the Washington, Oregon and California tour.
"We believe that single-payer health insurance is the only real solution to 50 million uninsured and countless million of underinsured people in this country," Feeney said on her Web site.
"We're working closely with health care professionals and activists in all three states.
"Call your representative, Norm Dicks, in Congress today and thank him for sponsoring HR 676."
House Resolution 676 is a bill in Congress proposing a single-payer national health insurance system. During her concerts, Feeney educates concertgoers on the issue and encourages them to support the bill.
Feeney's latest release, a 15-track album titled "Dump the Bosses Off Your Back," includes six new tracks from Feeney and contributions from Commander Cody, the Austin Lounge Lizards, Emma's Revolution and a cast of Pittsburgh musicians. The album draws on Irish, bluegrass, traditional, labor, folk and contemporary material.
