A Sequim man was arrested for arson July 31 after a fire was reported north of Washington Street near Blake Avenue. No one was injured and no buildings were damaged.
Officers responded at 10:20 p.m. Friday to a suspicious fire in the area of 90 S. Rhodefer Road in Sequim. It was estimated at 70 feet by 50 feet.
While en route, officers were notified of a man running from the area.
He later was identified as Maximillion Deak, a 20-year-old white male and Sequim resident.
When officers arrived, witnesses directed them to another man who was trying to detain Deak in the intersection of Blake Avenue and Washington Street.
Officers arrested Deak and booked him in Clallam County Jail on charges of second-degree arson and minor in possession of alcohol.
They also collected the suspected accelerant associated with the fire.
Humane Society benefit
There will be a benefit for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society from 2-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Eagles Club, 110 Penn St., Port Angeles. Musical entertainment will be by Amsterjam, JustUs, Testify, Thom Sparks and Smokin' Joe's R&B Review. There also will be food and door prizes.
