City names park for historian

The new Spruce Street pocket park will be named June Robinson Memorial Park, the city council unanimously decided at its Monday, Aug. 24, meeting.
Parks Coordinator Jeff Edwards said the parks board unanimously recommended the memorial for one of the founding parks board members whom they described as "an icon."
They hope to have the park finished by Oct. 1, he said.
The 83-year-old Robinson died of ovarian cancer on
May 13, 2009.
Along with serving on the parks board, she was secretary and president of the Clallam County Historical Society's board of directors. She also was a member of the Sequim Museum and Arts Center, Clallam County Heritage Advisory Board, Clallam County Genealogical Society, Sequim school board and helped write and edit numerous books on Clallam County history.
The quarter-acre park will be on the south side of East Spruce Street between Sequim and Sunnyside avenues.
The design includes walking paths and picnic tables.
"The contributions made by June Robinson are well-documented and acknowledged within the community," Edwards told the council in a memo.
"She was well known for all her work in providing valuable historical information concerning the area. She also was a school board member and chaired the parks board, volunteering many hours to develop the city's park system."
