Sequim Soroptimists picks 3 scholarship winners

Soroptimist International of Sequim recently awarded three, $1,000 continuing education scholarships, each going to 2007 Sequim High School graduates.

The scholarships are funded exclusively from monies raised by the Sequim club, primarily at the annual Gala Garden Show the third weekend of March.

Scholarship winners are:

_ Allison Tjemsland, is a junior at Yale University. Tjemsland is pursuing double majors in history and international studies. Her future goals include becoming a volunteer for the Peace Corps after graduation from Yale, followed by further education leading to master's and law degrees. She hopes to pursue a career involving indigenous rights and advocacy either in the United States or Latin America.

_ Hannah Ohnstad, a 2009 graduate of Peninsula College, is transferring to the University of Washington nursing school this fall to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing. During her time as a student at Peninsula College, she has worked as a certified nurse aide. Ohnstad hopes to further her education to become a nurse practitioner.

_ Jenna Hall, a student at Western Washington University, enters that school's Woodring College of Education this fall as a junior. Along with an elementary education major, she is pursuing endorsements in English and reading. Hall's goal is to take her passion for literature and writing and apply it to the classroom as a middle school language arts teacher.
