The North Olympic Library celebrates Teen Read Week, Oct. 18-24, with four special activities.

The initiative is spearheaded by YALSA, the American Library Association's young adult division, to promote teen reading.

Throughout Teen Read Week, Clallam County teens are invited to photograph, draw or write about their reality in the "Picture Your Reality" contest. Entries are displayed at the Port Angeles Library during November. Entries must be submitted by Saturday, Oct. 24. Entry forms are available online at nols.org.

From 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, youth services staff hosts a teen volunteer open house.

Beginning in November, the library sponsors a teen advisory council whose members will help advise the youth services staff about programming at the library and make suggestions about youth services materials. Applications are available online.

NOLS will participate in Wrestlemania, a joint project between YALSA and the World Wide Entertainment group. By reading 10 books and creating a bookmark, students in grades five-12 are eligible for a national contest to win a trip to the 2010 Wrestlemania competition in Phoenix, Ariz. The campaign starts Oct. 21 and finishes Jan. 12, 2010.

Teens wanting to try out their Halloween costume or recreate their favorite science fiction character can join a literary scavenger hunt and costume party from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, with prizes for the best costumes and the first team to finish the literary scavenger hunt.

All programs are at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.

For more information, call 417-8502 or see www.nols.org.
