Five PEO chapters are coming together for a Halloween bazaar, book signing and bake sale from 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 31, at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.

Author Glynda Schaad will sign copies of her books including "Women to Reckon with: Untamed Women of the Olympic Wilderness."

Bazaar items for sale include new and used books, lavender bears and lambs, handmade jewelry and note cards, cookware and homemade goods.

PEO is a women's, member-invited group that is more than 130 years old.

The Olympic Peninsula has 13 chapters with more than 200 members who support educational opportunities for women.

"We call ourselves a sisterhood and we help each other out," said Barbara Rymon, president of Chapter JC.

"PEO is one of the few organizations very few people know about, but that's changing," said Julie Jackson, PEO Chapter JC member.

PEO has six educational projects that provide women of all ages scholarships, grants and loans for education. In its history, the organization has given more than $170 million to women for education.

Membership is not

necessary to apply for financial aid.

"By coming to the bazaar, you have an opportunity to buy things for holiday shopping and to support a wonderful cause," Rymon said.

"We also want young women to know about these scholarships and grants and that they should apply."

More information on these opportunities and PEO can be found at the bazaar and online at www.peowashington.org.
