Recent fires in Clallam County as well as the earthquake in Haiti highlight the need for trained volun-

teers able to respond to disasters.

An introduction to the Red Cross and volunteer opportunities will be at

6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in the McCarver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles; and at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Red Cross office, 151 Ruth's Place, Carlsborg Business Loop.

Free training includes assisting at disaster events, shelter operations, participation in disaster prevention and collaboration with governmental and community agencies. This training and experience can qualify volunteers to assist with emergencies on the state and national level.

Volunteers from local businesses, those who are retired or who have health care licenses are welcome and can benefit from the training and experience.

For more information, contact Don Zanon or Diane Holdren at the Red Cross office, 457-7933, or at arcvolunteer@olypen.com.
