The man who ran out of Clallam County Superior Court in handcuffs on Jan. 21 and then was recaptured after returning to his Sequim apartment was charged Jan. 28 with one count of second-degree escape.

He is being held on $10,000 bail pending a Feb. 5 arraignment. Second-degree escape is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Sean Scott Farren, 20, escaped while at the courthouse for an appearance in Clallam County's drug court.

According to court records, Farren appeared in drug court about 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, to hear he was going to jail for not following drug court rules and failing his drug test.

Farren was handcuffed with his hands in front of him. He gave his keys and cell phone to a friend sitting in the courtroom before being led out of the courtroom and down the stairs. As he and the deputy turned to head toward the jail, Farren jerked away from the deputy holding his arm and ran out the courthouse's front door.

The deputy followed him west on Fourth Street, then north on Lincoln Street. Farren was seen getting into a silver car that sped away northbound on Lincoln Street and eastbound on First Street. Then the man to whom Farren gave his keys and cell phone walked out of the old courthouse building and handed over the items to the deputy.

Farren was recaptured without incident one week later after law enforcement officers surrounded the apartment complex where he lived with his wife.
