The proposed Sequim Bay Resort Community, which publicly resurfaced at a January meeting of the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club, remains far in the future as the developer and city negotiate how the project will take shape.
City Manager Steve Burkett said at that meeting that he wants the proposed development to be the first done under a written developer agreement.
City Planner Joe Irvin said the developer, Wayne Enterprises, and city officials are in "the beginning stages" of such an agreement, which spells out what the developer must do and what the city must do.
Since it is a long-term phased development, with a 20- to 25-year vision, they will reopen the agreement as necessary and re-evaluate the project's impacts, he said.
The proposed Sequim Bay Resort Community is a 166-acre resort community near John Wayne Marina in southeast Sequim, bisected by W hitefeather Way.
It would include a planned unit development with four major subdivisions and a fifth separate subdivision totaling 252 single-family homes plus 19 commercial lots on 15 acres to include 123 hotel rooms.
Wayne Enterprises' representative Louis Torres said the development application is undergoing environmental
review, and the city has asked the developer agreement to be a part of that.
Then the development, including developer agreement, will go before the planning commission and city council and they will decide whether to approve it and determine the final agreement, he said.
If the city approves it, they will look at the costs, including any mitigation, and decide if the project is feasible, Torres said.
