Students at Helen Haller Elementary School’s Rocketry Club saw the fruits of their afterschool labors take flight Monday afternoon.
Dave Hasenpflug, the school’s science specialist, challenged the youths to build up to three rockets and hit a target — an empty garbage can — from more than 200 feet away.
Students design paper rockets, collect data about them and launch them using compressed air. They time how long the rockets stay in the air and redesign them to stay in the air longer, about six and a-half seconds, Hasenpflug said.
