With the upcoming celebration of Earth Day and the CoastSavers clean-up effort on April 17, the Feiro Marine Life Center offers programs to benefit the public and the center.

At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the center on Port Angeles City Pier, Karen Matsumoto and Ron Hirschi will present the stories of "Fred and Evelyn" and the "Voyage of the Albatross."

These stories teach the connection to cultural and natural heritage, the importance of habitat and the impact of human lifestyles, using the example of how the North Pacific's garbage patch affects birds and sea life.

Matsumoto is marine science education coordinator for the Seattle Aquarium who has been a ranger naturalist at Denali National Park, classroom teacher in Utah and Washington, heading the Citizen High School Nearshore Monitoring Program in the Seattle area, and coordinating ocean education for coastal schools. Hirschi is a fisheries biologist with more than 30 years experience who has written nature books for children. He is a board member of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Foundation and is working on a new tribal art center and a project to identify "places of importance."

A $5 donation is suggested and reservations are recommended by calling 417-6254. The program will be moved to the Landing if attendance is greater than the center's capacity.
