A 21-year-old Sequim man made bail and split after he was charged in Clallam County District Court for a spree of bizarre behavior he exhibited while dressed as a banana.

Carlton Kohnert was charged with reckless endangerment and carrying, displaying and drawing a weapon capable of producing bodily harm with the intent to intimidate on Wednesday, Aug. 18.

He also is suspected of exposing himself while wearing the costume, police said.

Kohnert, a Marine reserve, spent one night in jail Aug. 17 after he was arrested by Clallam County Sheriff's deputies on Old Olympic Highway after a colorful ordeal.

Kohnert allegedly peeled back his costume at Wendy's in Port Angeles, exposing himself to several customers on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said it is likely several charges of indecent exposure will be filed, one for each person who saw the exposure.

Soon after the Wendy's incident, someone called police reporting the fruit-clad lad was in a car doing donuts in the parking lot of Saar's Market, deputies said.

After that, Kohnert and his crew went to the Four Seasons Ranch, waving around a shotgun and possibly shouting about white supremacy, deputies said.

The car containing the costumed man was pulled over at 6:15 p.m. on Old Olympic Highway by Clallam County Sheriff's deputies and State Patrol troopers.

Kohnert was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment, aiming or discharging a weapon and indecent exposure.

The driver of the car, 21-year-old Anthony Maybury, of Sequim, also was arrested and subsequently charged with reckless endangerment for brandishing a shotgun.

An 18-year-old girl riding in the back of the car was not arrested or charged in connection with the incident.
