The Washington Indian Gaming Association awarded scholarships to six peninsula college students for the coming school year.
Scholarship winners are:
• Shalle Graff, Poulsbo - Northwest Indian College
• Sandra Parker, Port Angeles - Peninsula College
• Daniel Romero, Port Angeles - Everett Community College
• David Prince, Port Angeles - University of Washington
• Anthony Rascon, Neah Bay - University of Washington
• Anthony Jones, Port Gamble - Washington University Law School (St. Louis)
The scholarship winners are members of a peninsula tribe including Jamestown S'Klallam, Quileute, Lower Elwha Klallam, Port Gamble S'Klallam and Makah.
Community college students received $1,100 scholarship awards; university and college undergraduate students received $1,500 and university graduate students received $2,000.
The local winners were among 33 Native American students awarded scholarships by the association this year.
