Seniors at Suncrest Retirement Village, 251 S. Fifth Ave., in Sequim, channeled their inner-artist and painted 120 plates for their upcoming Oktoberfest.

Rosalynn Rees, owner of Aglazing Art Studio in Port Angeles, led 30 seniors, family members and caregivers in painting and designing one-of-a-kind plates.

Karen Bert, OlyCAP senior nutrition outreach coordinator, said sales of the plates would help Meals on Wheels and dining programs in Clallam and Jefferson counties.

The plates will be sold at the Oktoberfest, running 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16.

The event also offers a donation-entry buffet including brats and sauerkraut, sauer klopse — a German-style meatball appetizer, hot German potato salad, braised apples and red cabbage, a choice of Black Forest or German chocolate cupcakes. A beer garden will be set up with Port Townsend Brewery beer, wine and hot cider. Free hot dogs and chips will be available for children along with a hay scramble and face painting.

Members of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers will play, and State Rep. Kevin Van De Wege and County Commissioner Steve Tharinger will appear.
