The bounty of the Olympic coast will be on grand display during the ninth annual Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival Oct. 9-10.

The event will be held on the waterfront in Port Angeles from 10:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Come hungry. The 8,000-square-foot Windermere Real Estate Crab Central food tent will feature "an old-fashioned crab feed," complete with large kettles of whole crabs dished up with fresh corn and coleslaw. Music and wine tasting will be provided by the Olympic Peninsula Wineries Association. Wet your whistle with Northwest beer and beverages.

At Crab Central and throughout the grounds visitors will enjoy crab cakes, grilled wild salmon, fish tacos, crab enchiladas, crab Rangoon, clam chowder, crab bisque, seafood gumbo, Northwest paella, oyster po'boys, local homemade organic berry and pumpkin pies and more.

Join in the fun during the High Tide Seafood and Wilder Auto Grab-A-Crab Tank Derby Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m-4 p.m. The event, held on the Port Angeles Pier, lets the entire family participate in "an unorthodox derby" by crabbing from large hold tanks using crab snares and bait. The $5 entry fee allows participants to crab for 10 minutes, no license or gear needed.

Learn from the best

The First Federal Education Program brings together a full schedule of activities through the festival. The Gateway Center is home to the Chef Demonstration Stage that features ongoing cooking demonstrations by outstanding local and regional chefs. City Pier will host environmental and marine exhibits in the education area. Stop by the Feiro Marine Life Center for a hands-on educational experience or to enjoy children's activities.

More than 60 crafts and merchants booths will have you shopping 'til dropping.

The Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival is produced by Olympic Peninsula Celebrations and the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be channeled to watershed education in the Dungeness River and Dungeness Bay habitats and other environmental educational organizations, including the Feiro Marine Life Center.
