Semi-annual taxes due to treasurer

Clallam County Treasurer Judith A. Scott reminds the taxpayers of Clallam County that the second half taxes for 2010 are due by Monday, Nov. 1. Since Oct. 31 is on Sunday, the deadline is extended.

Taxpayers may utilize the drive-by payment drop box in the drive-through circle in front of the courthouse, 223 N. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The drop box will be cleared of all payments daily.

The feature of paying taxes by credit card or E-check through Official Payment Corporation is by phone or Internet only and is available by calling 888-272-9829. Use the Clallam County jurisdiction of 5603. Taxpayers also may access the service by linking to www.officialpayment.com or from the Clallam County website of www.clallam.net under Quick Links. This information also is available on the back of the tax statement. There is a fee for this service of 2.5 percent.

Payment drop-off locations are available around the county for tax payment convenience.

Payment can be mailed, dropped in the drive-up drop box in front of the courthouse or brought into the treasurer's office at the courthouse.

Payment drops also are available with Karen Shewbert at the Department of Motor Vehicles office in the Sequim Plaza, 1001 E. Washington St., Sequim. The office is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.

Payment can be dropped in Forks at Forks City Hall, District Court II, during office hours or in their drop box.

In Sequim and Forks, dropped payments must be in check or money order form, no cash.

Inquiries and receipts will be available at the courthouse office, but not at the Forks and Sequim locations.

Off-site locations will be adhering to the same payment deadlines as the main office.

They collect these payments as a taxpayer courtesy.

Payment must either be in the office or postmarked by Nov. 1.

Postdated checks will be deposited within 24 hours.

Payments postmarked on or after Nov. 1 or dropped by the office or a designated payment location on or after Nov. 1 will be considered late and subject to 1-percent delinquent interest based on the balance due.

On Dec. 1, an additional 1-percent interest and 8-percent penalty will be charged.

Questions regarding property taxes or assessments can be directed to the treasurer's office at 417-2344.
