Clallam County MoveOn members will gather at Rep. Norm Dicks’ office at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, to demand that he vote against tax cuts for the wealthy but extend them for those earning $250,000 or less each year.

The MoveOn members are planning a vigil and “speakout” at the corner of Peabody and Fifth St. in Port Angeles.

The tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 are scheduled to expire Dec. 31 unless Congress votes to extend them.

The  “speakout” is one of hundreds of MoveOn.org protests at lawmakers’ district offices across the nation on Thursday.

So far, 152,000 people have logged on to www.moveon.org and written personal reasons they are opposed to tax cuts for millionaires. The goal is to gather one million messages to deliver to every representative and senator in December.

The Clallam County Council of MoveOn delivered an open letter to Dicks at his Port Angeles office, Nov. 18, urging him to vote against tax cuts for the wealthy.

“Bush’s tax gifts to the wealthy 2 percent has left the middle class with little or no ‘trickle down’ and a whole lot of indebtedness,” said William R. Kildall, Clallam County MoveOn coordinator.

“This has devastated the middle class economically and can no longer be tolerated.”
