Washington Agriculture & Forestry Education Foundation presented its Excellence in Leadership Award to Norm Schaaf, of Port Angeles. The award recognizes Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program graduates who have demonstrated excellence following their participation in the two-year program.

Schaaf manages all Merrill & Ring timberlands in the U.S., Canada and New Zealand. He earned a forestry degree from Washington State University and an MBA from the University of Washington’s Executive MBA program. He served as state chair of the Society of American Foresters and was recognized in 1986 as Forester of the Year. He also has been active with United Way of Clallam County, Pacific Education Institute, Olympic Natural Resources Center, Rotary, Olympic Logging Conference and Private Forest Landowners Association (British Columbia).
