Nominations for the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year must be submitted to the chamber office, 1192 E. Washington St., no later than 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31.

Blood drive scheduled
The Knights of Columbus Council 8455 sponsors a blood drive with the Puget Sound Blood Center from noon-2:30 p.m. and 2:45-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim.
Scheduling is on first-come, first-served basis. Anyone in good health, age 18 or older, may donate.
Clean water chief
Al Chrisman, city of Sequim wastewater treatment plant chief operator, was elected president of the Olympic Section of the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association and will serve through 2011. The association is a member of the Water Environment Federation, a nonprofit technical and educational organization for water environment professionals in 39 countries.

Candidates collect for pets
The Clallam County Fair royalty candi-dates sponsor a pet food drive for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society and area food banks from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Safeway, 680 W. resuscitation class offered
North Peninsula Building Association offers a first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation class to renew a standard eight-hour card from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 8-9, at the North Peninsula Building Association’s conference room, Midway Business Center, 3430 E. Highway 101, Suite No. 1, Port Angeles. Register by Feb. 4.
Participants whose cards have not expired more than 30 days ago need to take only the refresher class 6-10 p.m. Tuesd ay, Feb. 8.
Members’ cost for the refresher class is $35 and for both days is $40.
Nonmember costs are $50 for the refresher class and $60 for both classes.

PUD speakers bureau
Clallam County PUD No. 1 offers the free services of its 2011 Speakers Bureau to civic
organizations, schools, business organizations and other groups in the county. Speakers on topics such as renewable energy, outage preparation and the future of rates are available to speak about programs and services offered by PUD and about issues related to the electric utility industry.

Fish on the fence benefit
The annual Fish on the Fence Benefit Gala will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Drive, Port Angeles. A fundraiser for the Feiro Marine Life Center and the Lincoln High School commercial art program, the evening includes a live auction, art displays, appetizers by Marie’s Catering and local wines.
Through Fish on the Fence, local students create marine-themed artwork for the ongoing display on the fence surrounding the Landing Mall.

Fort Casey tales told
Historian Terry Buchanan, author of “The History of Fort Casey and the Defense of the Pacific Northwest,” speaks at History Tales of Clallam County, 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, in the Port Angeles City Council Chambers, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles.
