Sequim-area resident Ashley Merscher is the only candidate for the Clallam Conservation District 2011 board of supervisors elec-tion to file candidate information and a valid nominating petition by the Feb. 14 candidate filing deadline.

According to state law, Merscher is the only candidate whose name will appear on the ballot and the only candidate eligible to be elected during the March 14 election.

Polling places are at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., from 3:30-7:30 p.m.

Five positions comprise the Conservation District board of supervisors. Each serves a three-year term of office without compensation. Registered Clallam County voters elect three of the positions. The position currently held by Marilyn Pollock expires this year, and Pollock is not seeking a second term.

The Conservation District Board of Supervisors identifies local conservation needs, establishes goals and oversees the implementation of plans to conserve soil, water, wildlife and other renewable natural resources.

The board employs five staff, two of whom are half-time employees, and oversees an annual budget of $1 million to $2 million. The board of supervisors holds a public meeting at 3 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Clallam Conservation District office.
