Clallam County MoveOn brought out about 60 people on Monday, April 18, to the corners of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue, protesting corporations that they believe don’t pay their fair share of income tax.

Joe Raab, of Sequim, dressed as Uncle Sam and stood with a sign at the corner of Bank of America Park, saying the company owes nearly $4 billions in taxes on its profits between 2006-2010.

“I’m against corporations that don’t pay income taxes, like Bank of America, Microsoft, Pfizer, Google, and the list goes on. They are paying executives millions of dollars in bonuses,” Raab said.

His solution for Sequim residents is to use local banks and/or credit unions.

Janet Atkinson, of Port Angeles, said she’s angry that corporations make so much money but the divide between CEOs and the workers is so great.

“That’s what’s outrageous to me. They get 400 times more than the average worker. It used to be about 40 times more,” Atkinson said.

Richard Gray, local organizer of Clallam County MoveOn, said there are choices for people to make a difference.

“Contact our representatives and senators. Ask them to vote for fair taxes,” he said.

Other MoveOn members held signs and discussed their frustration that corporations can now give unlimited funds toward political campaigns as decided in the Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission case.

Organizers said Clallam County MoveOn has about 400 members, with 50 people at its regular meetings. The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 73 Howe Road, Agnew. Visit www.moveon.org for more information.
