Women Voters meeting reveals possible Obama visit

Sharing the spotlight with talk about city goals at the May 18 League of Women Voters of Clallam County’s annual meeting was the announcement by Port Angeles City Manager Kent Myers that he believes President Barack Obama is coming to a ceremony for the Elwha River dams removal.
Myers spoke about Port Angeles’ successes and worries after sharing that the Secret Service was investigating the airport and hospital. He said the president has received a personal invitation to the event from the Lower Elwha Tribe.
“It appears to be the type of project that he would participate in,” Myers said.
The Clallam County Democratic Party piggybacked on the news and invited Obama to its annual Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner benefit on September 17 at Guy Cole Convention Center. Myers said he expects to see national media coverage of the event since it’s the largest dam removal in the U.S.’s history.
There have been no confirmations of the president’s attendance.
Sequim City Manager Steve Burkett spoke before Myers about the Sequim City Council’s goals and some upcoming projects. He emphasized some of his goals are creating more strategic planning and goal setting, creating a long-range financial plan, improving customer service and building an effective organization. Burkett said government doesn’t have a good reputation for customer service and it’s something he’s often worked on.
About 40 people attended the meeting.
