With its big bunco party, the Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital this week raised more than $1,450 that will be used to lend a hand to families who need assistance paying for medical care at the hospital. More than 70 people attended the affair, the last of the season, on Friday, May 20.
Joy Miller, who serves on the guild’s publicity committee, said 1,821 children from Clallam County were patients at Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2010, with half of those receiving financial assistance for their treatments.
She noted, “The hospital has always had a commitment to take care of children without regard to their families’ ability to pay. It’s able to provide such assistance due in large part to funds raised by the 500 guilds in this four-state region. In Clallam County, guilds raised slightly more than $95,000 last year but the cost to help families in need from this county was more than $828,000.”
The Sequim Guild will hold its next bunco game in September.
Another opportunity to give
Seattle Children’s also will benefit from toys and donations collected at an upcoming “Chics List” luncheon and 70th birthday celebration for Lynne Rogers.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 3, and will be held at 7 Cedars Casino.
All are invited and all are asked to bring a toy for infants or toddlers or a donation for Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Rogers, who founded the Chics List — an Internet group — describes the event as a great way to network with old friends and meet new ones and encourages all women in the area to attend.
“Lynne’s Chic List” is a group of more than 200 people — mostly women — who have asked to be informed of various events and to be kept apprised of the needs of people within the community.
Reservations may be made by sending $16.50 to cover the cost of the lunch to Joy Miller, 711 Brigadoon Blvd., Sequim, WA 98382.
