A Sequim man's retrial on rape charges was pushed back several weeks to allow time to determine which portions of a four-hour recording of the alleged sexual assaults can be played in court.

Corean Barnes, 28, a former nursing assistant in Sequim, was arrested in 2008 on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment. He is accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend while she was trying to break up with him. The woman secretly recorded the encounter, which lasted about four hours, and the tape was played during his 2009 trial in Clallam County Superior Court.

Barnes was convicted of two charges of second-degree rape and one charge of unlawful imprisonment, which came with a sentence of just less than 10 years in prison, but successfully appealed his conviction and got it overturned by the Division 2 state Court of Appeals.

The court ruled Judge Ken Williams should not have allowed parts of the recording that didn't include threats to be admitted as evidence.

Clallam County Deputy Prosecutor Ann Lundwall and Public Defender Alex Stalker made redactions to a transcript of the recording, which will be reviewed by Williams.

The trial is now set for July 25.
