Family forest owners and managers on the peninsula and surrounding areas are invited to an educational field day from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Palmer Family Tree Farm near Chimacum.

The field day is to prepare landowners to plan and execute management activities that meet their objectives, reduce risks and protect their financial investment. Absentee landowners with property on the peninsula or surrounding islands are especially encouraged to attend.

Participants can choose from a wide variety of classes and activities taught by specialists in forest health, wildlife habitat, weed control, wildfire protection, timber and non-timber forest products, using global positioning systems, chainsaw safety and maintenance, and forestland security and safety. The presenters will answer questions specific to each owner’s property situation. Youth activities are available all day.

The fee is $20 per person or $30 per family until Aug. 12; $30/person or $40/family after that date. An optional barbecue lunch is $10 per person. Make lunch reservations by Aug. 16.

A brochure with detailed information, directions and a registration form is at athttp://ext.wsu.edu/forestry, or contact the local WSU Extension office. For more information, call WSU Extension Forestry Educator Andy Perleberg at 509-667-6540 or e-mail andyp@wsu.edu.
