Town Hall meeting on Alzheimer’s set
Local chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association sponsor a public input session from
1-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim. The session is to collect comments and recommendations about what a National Alzheimer’s Plan should include. Panelists include Mark Harvey, regional director, Olympic Area Agency on Aging; Kathy Burrer, executive director, Dungeness Courte Alzheimer’s Community; Bob Le Roy, president/CEO, Alzheimer’s Association, Western/Central Washington State Chapter; Al Burge, Alzheimer’s family caregiver and support group member; and Roy Walker, executive director, Olympic Area Agency on Aging. Congregation continues program
Congregation Olympic B’Nai Shalom continues its adult education program with Perry Spring of Port Townsend and his presentation about Sephardic Jews on Friday, Aug. 26.

Historical Society sets big September sale
The Clallam County Historical Society holds its annual garage sale on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 2-3 and Sept. 9-10, at Lincoln School, 924 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles. The sale is from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.
Members-only preview sale is from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 (memberships available at the door).
Sept. 9 is half-price day; Sept. 10 is “Buck-a-Bag” day.

Stratton leads Camp Fire group
Jean Stratton was selected as the Board of Camp Fire USA, Juan de Fuca Council’s new executive director for Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Stratton’s long history working for nonprofits includes 17 years as an executive staff member for Girl Scouts-Totem Council and 11 years in management with the North Olympic Library System.

Meeting set for STOP grant
A public community planning meeting regarding the Clallam County STOP grant application is scheduled for noon Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Healthy Families office, 1210 E. Front St., suite C, Port Angeles.
STOP grant funding supports coordinated responses to adult or teen victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking crimes. It supports victim services, law enforcement and prosecution strategies in cases involving violence against women. Application requires participation by, and communication among, law enforcement, prosecution, and victim services providers.
Luquetta-Cole to head Homeless Connect
Mercy Luquetta-Cole is the new chairman of Clallam County Project Homeless Connect. The project provides an annual service fair for local people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Luquetta-Cole has served at 2010-2011 Connects events. Her specific goals include involving more service providers, such as medical and legal professionals and education-driven skills-training institutions, and building a working link with the West End.

Wellness Fair and Fun Walk scheduled
Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic sponsors its annual Clinic Fun Walk and Wellness Fair beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim. The event raises awareness of Sequim’s free clinic, its programs and services.
Participants in the Fun Walk can choose a 1-mile or a 5-mile course. This year there will be an “Images of Health” costume contest.
Health screening booths are free to walk participants or those who pay the $12 registration fee.
