A man accused of scavenging through the burned remains of the New Peking Restaurant in Port Angeles faces an additional burglary charge after police say they came upon him stealing from a Sequim auto business Sept. 2.

Craig Steven Foster, 49, was charged Sept. 6 with second-degree burglary and contempt of court in addition to previous charges of criminal trespass and second-degree burglary. He pleaded not guilty Sept. 9.

Sequim police said they contacted Foster around 10:50 p.m. Sept. 2 outside Peninsula Auto Works in the 100 block of East Washington Street. Foster had a flashlight and a brown box containing a radiator, officers said.

The business owner, who was inside the building during the incident, told police he saw Foster enter the fenced area and begin loading car parts into a box. Police said Foster was unknown to the business owner and did not have permission to remove property from the business.

Foster was arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked into the Clallam County jail. He was released Sept. 8 on $5,000 bail.

The prior charges were filed in early July after police said Foster stole copper wire and other items from the wreckage of the New Peking Restaurant, which burned down July 5. Foster pleaded not guilty to those charges and was released on $500 bail.

Foster was arrested a few days later on suspicion of theft after police investigated the theft of approximately $10,000 worth of copper piping from the Grocery Outlet site on West Washington Street.

Charges have not been filed in that case.
