Jury finds Staci Allison stole cash from evidence room

After nearly five years, former Sheriff’s evidence technician Staci Allison was found guilty of stealing $8,644 in cash over a period of several years.

 

A jury of six women and six men found Allison guilty of theft and money laundering after close to five hours of deliberation following a four-day trial in Clallam County Superior Court.

 

The case began on Nov. 27, 2006, when 128 evidence bags that once contained money were found empty. An investigation revealed 49 deletions were made to the evidence entries in the computer system by Allison the day before an evidence audit scheduled for May 25, 2006. Charges were filed in May 2009.

 

During the trial Allison testified she made the deletions as a test of the system to troubleshoot why entries weren’t registering correctly during record searches. She said she didn’t know who stole the money.

 

Allison was taken into custody at the Clallam County jail pending sentencing scheduled for next month.
