Three new pathways and roads recently opened in the City of Sequim.

On Dec. 13, city officials held a ribbon cutting at the new South 14th Avenue. Seton Construction worked three weeks on the 600-foot road, which opened to traffic on Dec. 8.

The road connects Grant Road and West Washington Street to create easier and safer access to River Road from nearby businesses and the Clallam County Public Works shop.

The cost is estimated at $215,000 to $220,000 for design and construction.

Signs are going up in coming weeks to direct traffic from Grant Road to South 14th Avenue.

C&J Excavating completed another project by installing sidewalks on the east side of North Third Avenue from the alley between West Spruce Street and West Alder Street to West Fir Street. Crushed rock is placed on both sides of the sidewalk.

Construction costs are about $39,074, with both projects coming from funds within the Transportation Benefit District.

Residents of The Vintage at Sequim saw their efforts come to fruition on Dec. 14, when Lakeside Industries completed a pathway along Brackett Road from the affordable retirement community to Priest Road.

Residents wanted safer access to Walmart, which in turn gave a $20,000 donation to the City of Sequim for the pathway. The project took three days.

City staff hosts a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, on the pathway west of The Vintage, 1009 Brackett Road.
