Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies yesterday arrested two Port Angeles men suspected of participating in the Hardy’s Market robbery Feb. 14.

James E. Thompson, 28, and Nicholas B. Baker, 26, were booked into the Clallam County jail March 7 on suspicion of first degree robbery.

Deputies believe Thompson drove the getaway vehicle, transporting Baker to and from the area near the store on Taylor Cutoff Road where the robbery occurred, Chief Criminal Deputy Ron Cameron said.

Thompson received some of the proceeds of the crime from Baker, Cameron said.

Sheriff’s deputies contacted Thompson during a routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning and saw he matched the general description of someone who may have been involved in the robbery, Cameron said.

Detectives followed up with an investigation that led them to Baker. Cameron said Baker entered the store on Valentine’s Day wearing a ski mask and pointed a gun at the clerk, demanding money from the till.

Baker is suspected of receiving an estimated $300.

The firearm in this case was recovered and identified as a plastic pellet style pistol, Cameron said.

While no other suspects involved in the robbery remain at large, the investigation continues and anyone who may have further knowledge of the incident should contact Sheriff’s Sgt. John Hollis at 461-9257.
