Emergency crews airlifted a 56-year-old woman to Harborview Medical Center after she suffered a medical event that caused her to drive her car into a ditch March 7.

 

Lorri Ann Sumida, of Sequim, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after she was found in her car, stuck in a ditch on Old Gardiner Road at U.S. Highway 101, according to a State Patrol press memo.

A Harborview representative said Sumida was discharged March 10.

 

Clallam County Fire District 3 responded to the report of a vehicle collision with an entrapment and found Sumida’s Chevrolet in the ditch.

 

Patrick Young, public information officer with District 3, said an eyewitness reported the car was headed eastbound on Highway 101 when it left the south side of the highway and crossed all lanes of traffic, coming to a rest in a ditch on Old Gardiner Road.

 

Bystanders removed Sumida, who was unconscious, from the car while paramedics responded. She was treated for a possible medical condition that may have contributed to the accident, Young said.

 

Medics transported her to the emergency helipad located at the Olympic Medical Center parking lot on North Fifth Avenue in Sequim for airlift to Harborview Medical Center.

 

The State Patrol determined Sumida’s medical condition caused her to crash her car.
