"Out of Dreams Into Realities: Our Class History" features 800 photos from 54 class members reflecting on their time in Sequim. Submitted photo.
The Sequim High School Class of 1962 celebrates 50 years since graduation this year with the publication of "Out of Dreams Into Realities: Our Class History."
Taking the class motto for the book’s title, 54 class members contributed their recollections of growing up in Sequim in the 1950s and 1960s and the stories of their lives since graduation.
The stories in the 356-page hardcover book are supplemented with nearly 800 photos — family shots, elementary school class pictures and Dungeness School student body photos. There also are newspaper clips, including many from the school paper, the Prairie Wolf Review, other documents from the period, and a special section reprinted from a 1951 edition of the Sequim Press, "The Second Grade Writes to Santa."
The book’s executive editor, class member Judy Stipe, writes, “Growing up in Sequim in the 1950s could be described as the ‘wonder years.’ We had freedoms that no longer exist for kids today. It was an innocent and simple time when family and school were the center of our world.”
The book is published by Mountain State Publishing LLC in Martinsburg, W. Va. After class reunion events on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 10-11, the book will be on sale in local retail outlets and online at Amazon.com and Mountainstatepublishing.com.
