Patsene Dashiell, community liaison for the Sequim School District, called the Sequim Education Foundation’s first-ever Back to School Two-Mile Family Fun Run a big success. It will grow over time, she added.

Dashiell said with the $5-per-participant fee and a few donations, the event, held Saturday, Sept. 1, at the high school, cleared $500. The money will be distributed through the Foundation’s Teacher Grant Program.

Dashiell said the 67-runner field was a nice start, but added, “We want to build on this event.”

The run is intended as a fun way to help get families ready to go back to school. Next year it will include a fair that provides services to families, Dashiell said, including “hair cuts, school supplies, immunizations and others.”

Dashiell said the event wouldn’t have been as much fun had the district’s teachers not participated in its planning and in the run. “They were the ones who came up with the idea for the obstacle course, and they made that happen.”
