From Clallam County
Superior Court

Sentencing in cocaine case

Robert L. Stone, 26, of Port Angeles, received a 20-month prison sentence and was transported from the Clallam County jail to a state penitentiary Aug. 15.
Stone, who pleaded guilty to two counts of delivering cocaine Aug. 10, also will serve 20 months state probation.
Stone’s guilty plea was the result of an Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team investigation that occurred in January 2010, detectives said.
During the investigation, OPNET purchased cocaine from Stone on four separate occasions.
Then in February 2010, OPNET arrested Stone in an apartment near Ninth and C streets in Port Angeles.

Firearm, trespass charges

A 50-year-old Sequim man faces one charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of criminal trespassing after he allegedly entered a shooting range during an organized event and shot a rifle he is not allowed to possess.
Sheriff’s deputies said Dennis W. McFarland, who is a convicted felon, unlawfully entered the Peninsula Long Rifle Black Powder Range during a closed event for the Green River Mountain Men club and fired a .45-70 Government rifle.
Because he was convicted of a felony in 1980, McFarland is prohibited from possessing firearms, deputies said.
He was arrested and taken into custody at the Clallam County jail. Prosecutors filed charges Sept. 4 and McFarland was released on his own recognizance.

Domestic violence

A Sequim man is accused of assaulting his 66-year-old wheelchair-bound father with a shovel Aug. 31.
Sequim police officers arrested Eric J. Monson, 36, after responding to his house in the 800 block of East Cedar Street when neighbors reported two males fighting in the backyard at 11:47 a.m. One officer, upon approaching the home, heard a man saying, “Stop, why are you doing this?” and saw Monson strike a man in a wheelchair. The father told police Monson had taken a shovel and held it up as if to hit him with it and threatened to split his head open, according to court documents.
Monson was held in custody at the Clallam County jail until Sept. 4, when he was released on his own recognizance and prohibited from contacting his father.
He faces one charge of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, a shovel.

Two charged with possession

Preston J. Smith, 40, of Clallam County, was charged with possession of heroin and Sharon L. Knotek, age 46, also of Clallam County, was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Both charges were filed in Clallam County Superior Court on Aug. 23.
The charges are a result of an OPNET investigation that occurred in the 1600 block of Blue Mountain Road in April 2010. On that day, OPNET and Washington State Patrol officials apprehended Smith after a brief pursuit.
Smith was arrested pursuant to five arrest warrants that had been issued in Clallam County and Jefferson County.
OPNET then served a search warrant at Smith’s home. After examinations of the evidence had been completed and the case had been reviewed by the Clallam County Prosecutor, Smith and Knotek were charged.
