With the general election just six weeks away, voters can expect to see ballots in their mailboxes soon.

The Clallam County Auditor’s Office sent ballots to 365 overseas and military voters on Friday, Sept. 21, and e-mailed another 112 ballots to military and overseas voters who requested electronic ballots.

 

Ballots for all other Clallam voters are at the printers and are scheduled to be mailed on Wednesday, Oct. 17, the standard 20 days prior to the election.

 

If voters will not be home between Oct. 17-Nov. 6 to receive their ballots, they may contact the Clallam County Auditor’s Office (417-2221) with an address where the ballot can be mailed; ballots are not forwarded by the postal service.

 

The Washington State Voter’s Guide is available online, now at www.secstate.wa.gov.

 

Guides will be mailed to every household in the state around the time the ballots are mailed in October, Clallam County auditor Patty Rosand said.

 

The last day to register by mail or online is Oct. 6.

 

That also is the last day to change an address within Washington.

 

New voters may register in person at the auditor’s office until Oct. 29 and still be eligible to vote in the general election.

 

Current voter registration in Clallam County is 45,755. At the primary it was 45,879.

 

“We are getting a lot of new voters registering, but moved 700 voters to inactive status when their primary ballots were returned for incorrect addresses after the primary,” Rosand said.

 

“We have contacted those voters trying to determine if they have moved within Clallam County or left the area. Many will return to active status when they reply.”
