Peninsula College brings the world to Port Angeles in a new Directed Studies course starting Jan. 2 on the Peninsula College main campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The three-credit course, “Exploring Life in Three World Regions: India, Costa Rica and the Pacific NW,” is co-taught by Dr. Sandep Kandhwal, Peninsula College’s Fulbright Scholar in Residence from India, and P.C. biology professors Barbara Blackie and Dr. Brian Hauge.

The course explores diverse environments of India, Costa Rica and the Pacific Northwest through selected topics in natural history, ecology and environmental science. Students investigate contrasts and common ground as they learn about the physical environment, biodiversity and socioeconomics of each region through lecture, readings and discussion.

Kandhwal’s intimate knowledge of India, along with Hauge’s research in Costa Rica and Blackie’s experiences in the Pacific Northwest, are fused in this unique exploration of three world regions.

The class meets for one hour each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8-9 a.m. The course is open to anyone interested in natural history, the environment or cultural diversity.

Registration is open now. To register, visit the college website at www.pencol.edu or call 452-9277.
