The Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested two people after a raid on the 300 block of River Road on Jan. 24.

Shortly after 8 a.m., more than 25 officers from several different branches, including U.S. Customs and Boarder Patrol, the Sequim and Port Angeles Police Departments and Homeland Security, coordinated with OPNET to fulfill a search warrant for the house belonging to 50-year-old Sequim resident John D. Davis. Even the state Department of Natural Resources provided an officer to assist with the operation, which authorized a search of Davis’ house for both Davis and evidence of his trafficking in methamphetamine.

“It was a 2,700-square-foot home and I suspected that we might find several people inside,” said OPNET team supervisor Jason Viada, “so that was one of the factors that I considered when I summoned so many additional resources.”

After searching the house, they found Davis and five other people, two of whom were hidden inside the cabin of a large boat on cinder blocks in the backyard. In addition, the teams found evidence that “seems to corroborate our cause to believe that Davis was selling methamphetamine,” said Viada.

OPNET arrested Davis in connection with a larger drug trafficking investigation, having probable cause to believe that he sold investigators meth on four separate occasions in October 2012. One of the occupants hiding in the boat also was arrested for a local warrant and was not linked to Davis, Viada said.

Davis was booked at the Clallam County jail and his case is being reviewed by the prosecutor’s office.

Viada’s press release indicated that Davis could face additional charges for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop.
