A two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 101 near mile post 257 on Monday afternoon left two people injured and taken for treatment at Olympic Medical Center.

“He couldn’t see I was coming up,” said rural Sequim resident Patricia Bekkevar, 59. “I was just cruising along and suddenly he was there!”

While driving west on Highway 101, Bekkevar hit 92-year-old Russell Weber’s Subaru Legacy when Weber abruptly turned out onto the eastbound lane.

Bekkevar said she believes that Weber wasn’t able to see her coming due to two trucks parked next to the turnout from the driveway.

Weber and his wife, Rosalie, 91, were transported to Olympic Medical Center with injuries, although Bekkevar was unharmed.

Bekkevar’s GMC Sierra sustained moderate front end damage; the Subaru’s back driver’s side was severely impacted.

The accident stalled traffic on for roughly 45 minutes before the scene was cleared. Russell Weber currently is in the Critical Care Unit of Olympic Medical Hospital and Rosalie Weber’s condition is unknown.
