National Weather Service issues strong wind warning to western Washington

Special Weather Statement from NOAA 


A vigorous storm system will bring strong winds and locally heavy rain to western Washington Tuesday night through Thursday morning.

A low pressure system will develop off the pacific northwest coast tuesday night and track into northern Vancouver Island Wednesday morning. Breezy to locally windy conditions are expected ahead of the front Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

Southerly winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are possible along the coast and from Sdmiralty Inlet northward. Winds will turn more southwesterly wednesday afternoon and evening which will be favorable for wind gusts to 45 mph around the greater Puget Sound region. A burst of strong westerly winds could also impact areas around the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca during this period.

Winds will remain gusty wednesday evening...then slowly ease into Thursday morning.
The front will also bring rain...heavy at times...to the lowlands of western Washington. Coastal areas could receive over 2 inches of rain while many interior locations could get 1 to 2 inches.

Some areas north of the Olympics will see less precipitation due to rainshadow effects.
Lastly…large swells will possibly give high surf conditions to the Washington coast Wednesday and Wednesday night. waves may reach 20 to 25 feet by Wednesday night before subsiding.
