The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula have been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Medina Foundation for general operating expenses. More than 1,000 local youth will benefit from the award, which will be used to support core programming in academics, health and character development.

“The Medina grant is a major addition to our ability to deliver quality programs to our kids,” said board treasurer Jerry Sinn. “It is particularly significant because it is not restricted to any one program; it can be applied to a variety of activities.”

Established in 1987, the nonprofit serves the Sequim and Port Angeles communities at two clubhouses. Besides structured programs, the clubs feature a library, arts room, computer lab, games room, kitchen and cafeteria where children receive more than 70,000 USDA-approved meals and snacks a year.

Combined, the sites serve an average of 305 members per day during the school year and 176 per day in summer.

The Medina Foundation also will sponsor Boys & Girls Clubs executive director Mary Budke to attend the upcoming Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute at the University of Washington.
