William Matzkiw Jr.
A graveside service for
Sequim resident William Matzkiw Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Oceanview Cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. Mr. Matzkiw died Sept. 19, 2008, at the age of 69 of congestive heart failure.
He was born Jan. 12, 1939, in New York, N.Y., to William Matzkiw Sr. and Mary Sholod Matzkiw.
He married Dori Burke on Nov. 10, 1962, on the military base at Quantico, Va.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, two in Vietnam. He retired as a first sergeant in 1976.
Mr. Matzkiw served as a director of maintenance and operations for the San Marcos Unified School District in California. He retired in 1989 and moved to the peninsula in 1995.
He loved deep sea fishing and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760 in Sequim, Fleet Reserve Association, National Association of Uniformed Services, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Marine Corps League and American Legion Post 365 in Vista, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Dori Burke of Sequim; son Timothy Michael Matzkiw of Vista, Calif.; brothers Joseph Nicholas Matzkiw of Lynchburg, Tenn., and Nicholas George Matzkiw of Long Island, N.Y..
He was preceded in death by son William Douglas Matzkiw and brother Robert Joseph Matzkiw.

Harold LeRoy Johnson
A memorial service for
Sequim resident Harold LeRoy Johnson will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Sequim Bible Church, 847 N. Sequim Ave. Mr. Johnson died Sept. 17, 2008, at the age of 78 of hemorrhagic stroke.
He was born April 16, 1930, in Spokane to Harold and Alfreda Pearson Johnson.
He served in the Army for two years.
He married Astrid Johnson on Oct. 4, 1961, in San Francisco, Calif.
Mr. Johnson worked for the railroad for 30 years, in Seattle and Sequim from 1991.
His interests included Bible study, fishing, woodworking, golfing, hiking and playing Scrabble.
He is survived by his wife, Astrid Johnson of Sequim; daughters and son-in-law Linda Johnson of Bellevue and Irene and Paul Stewart of Hawaii; sister and brother-in-law Clarice and Jim Taylor of Tigard, Ore.; aunt Evelyn Mooers of Lewiston, Idaho; three grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Dwane E. Clark
A celebration of life for Port Angeles resident Dwane E. Clark will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Salt Creek Park, 3506 Camp Hayden Road, Port Angeles. Mr. Clark died Sept. 16, 2008, at the age of 70 of cancer.
He was born April 12, 1938, in Longview, to Howard Stanley and Muriel May Conn Clark.
He married Anita Louise Butler on March 19, 1955. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2002.
He married Ruth Hunt Clark in Bullhead City, Ariz., on Oct. 12., 2004.
A sea captain for the majority of his working career, he lived in Alaska for quite some time before coming to the Peninsula about 40 years ago.
He loved the water and fishing. His greatest joy was in spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Clark of Port Angeles; sons and daughters-in-law Dale and Charlene Clark of Shelton; Jon and Heather Clark of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Mike Cooper, Donna and Mike McGoff, and Monica and Gordy Sukert, all of Port Angeles; brothers Stanley Clark and Larry Clark; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Violette Pauline Dreiling
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Violette Pauline Dreiling, who died Sept. 4, 2008, at the age of 90 of cancer.
She was born March 18, 1918, in Quilcene to Earl Ray and Sadie Warner Sewell.
She married Alvin Dreiling in 1948 in Port Townsend. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2007.
Mrs. Dreiling was a waitress in Port Angeles for more than 40 years.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Her survivors include sons Jerald Fredrickson of Grants Pass, Ore.; Richard Carter of Culpepper, Va.; brother Oliver Sewell and sisters Lottie Trevino and Marguerite Johnson Ayers, all of Sequim.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son Jimmie Fredrickson; brother Marvin Sewell; and sisters Alberta Enos and Arlene Burbank.
Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
April Jeuel Pullman
A memorial service has been held for Port Angeles resident April Jeuel Pullman, who died Sept. 16, 2008, at the age of 35. Cause of death is pending.
She was born Oct. 30, 1972, in Seattle to Allan James Pullman and Katharine Anne Marks. The family moved to Port Angeles a year and a half later.
She worked as a caregiver in North Sound, Orcas Island, from the ages of 20-27 and as a medical file clerk in Sequim from the ages of 27-30. She returned home to help take care of her 90-year-old grandmother at the age of 31.
She made custom jewelry, which she loved to share. She also enjoyed the outdoors with others. She also was very artistic and tender. She had a love for and deep faith in God.
She was a member of Jehovah's Witness Sequim Kingdom Hall.
She is survived by her father, Allan Pullman of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; mother Katherine Marks of Port Angeles; and sisters and brother-in-law Alivia and Kasey Vella of Port Angeles and Evelyn Anne Pullman of New Orleans, La.

Allen Lee Welch
A service for Port Angeles resident Allen Lee Welch will be announced at a later date. Mr. Welch died Sept. 10, 2008, at the age of 47. Case of death is pending.
He was born Aug. 17, 1961, in Edmonds, to Harlan Lee and Alice May Olson Welch.
He graduated from Fife High School in 1979 and later attended Clover Park VoTec College.
He married Ramona Ann Hagadorn on Sept. 24, 1983, in Tacoma.
He worked as a landscaper, loved working on classic cars, spending time in the outdoors and being with family and friends.
He was an active minister in the Church of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mr. Welch is survived by his wife, Ramona Welch of Port Angeles; son Elijah Welch of Port Angeles; daughter Rita Welch of Port Angeles; mother Alice Welch of Port Angeles; father and stepmother Harlan and Melanie Welch of Edgewood; brother and sister-in-law Harlan and Debbie Welch; sister Janet Welch-Bishop of Port Angeles; a nephew and two nieces.
