Roger Morris Stebbins
A memorial service for Sequim resident Roger Morris Stebbins will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
Mr. Stebbins died May 22, 2009, at the age of 91.
He was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Homer Adolph and Elizabeth Alden Tredwell Stebbins.
He grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., attended the Irving School in Terrytown, N.Y., and spent a year of school in Grenoble, France. He was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1940.
He married Ruth Gould on Nov. 9, 1940, in Newton Centre, Mass. They met when they were both college freshmen at Colby College. They lived in Hastings-on-Hudson before he joined the Army in December 1942.
He served in the Army Quartermaster Corps during World War II in Okinawa and was honorably discharged at the rank of captain in 1946.
Mr. Stebbins worked for 35 years as a buyer for Sears
Roebuck and Company in New York City.
His career with Sears took him and his family to Los Angeles, Calif., for 10 years; Seattle for six; and Honolulu, Hawaii, for 20.
While in Hawaii, he was a member of Rotary International and was named a Paul Harris Fellow.
He served on the boards of Hawaii Loa College, Friends of the East West Center, the YMCA, Service Corps of Retired Executives and Kiwanis Club.
After retirement, the Stebbinses settled in Sequim, where he became very involved in the local community, including the SunLand Golf Club and St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
They traveled throughout Europe, Asia and the United States visiting family and friends and discovering new cultures and cuisines. They particularly enjoyed their biannual outings with the Sears "Golden Oldies" group.
Remembered for his warm and outgoing personality and genuine caring for others, he had weekly breakfasts with friends his family called the "Knights of the Round Table."
He enjoyed playing golf, drawing, oil painting, photography and gardening, especially roses. He also enjoyed watching Mariners baseball games and listening to books on tape.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Gould Stebbins; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Kit Davis Stebbins; daughter Marnie Dam; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother and sister Seabury Tredwell Stebbins and Ruth Rebekah Cadwell.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County.
Douglas Arthur Rogers
A memorial service for former Sequim resident Douglas Arthur Rogers will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Sequim View Cemetery on Sequim-Dungeness Way.
Pastor Frank Deister of Open Bible Church of Port Angeles will officiate. Mr. Rogers died April 17, 2009, at the age of 78.
He was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Sequim to Arthur and Neva Smith Rogers. He grew up in the Sequim-Dungeness area, graduating from Sequim High School.
He joined the United States Navy in 1950, retiring in 1973 with the rank of chief sonarman submarine service. He spent his entire career serving on both diesel and nuclear submarines, initially serving on the USS Caiman.
He also served on the USS Madison, the USS Sculpin and the USS Salmon.
He married Bonnie Lamica and they had four children: sons Lane Lamica of California, E. Jay Rogers of Minnesota, and Richard Rogers of Oregon, and daughter Neva Marie of California. They later divorced.
He married Erma Boyce in 1971 in San Diego, Calif. She preceded him in death.
He moved from Manteca, Calif., to Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1979. He loved lake fishing as well as telling stories of his adventures in the Navy. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He is survived by brothers Art Rogers of Sequim; Dave Rogers of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Mike Rogers of Poulsbo; and Gene Rogers of Snohomish; sisters Betty Ryan of Bremerton; Shirley Rogers of Port Orchard; Pat Blanton of Port Angeles; Rachel Maines of Silverdale; Dee Krafsky of Poulsbo; Janice Marx of Edmonds; Norma Grady of Coldwell, Idaho; and Kathy Greene and Kristy Kimball, both of Montana; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Sequim View Cemetery was in charge of arrangements.
Nadine Y. Mogi
A celebration of life was held for Port Angeles resident Nadine Y. Mogi, who died May 22, 2009, at the age of 73.
She was born May 27, 1935, in Wickes, Ark.
