Alice Jean Haught

A private service will be held for Sequim resident Alice Jean Haught.

Mrs. Haught died June 16, 2009, at the age of 69.

She was born March 26, 1940, in Long Beach, Calif., to Lionel and Lucille Foulkes Brown.

She married Jerry Haught on June 28, 1958, in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was a licensed vocational nurse, a Riverside school secretary, and owner of an antique and cheese shop in Sequim.

She lived in Riverside and Anaheim, Calif., for 45 years and in Sequim for 20 years.

She loved art and antiques and taking trips around the world, especially to Italy and France.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jerry Haught; sons Craig Haught of Sequim; Brian Haught of Chandler, Ariz.; and Mark Haught of Bainbridge Island; brother Jim Brown of Florida; four grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and cousins in California, Iowa and Washington, D.C.



Mary Emily Breen

A celebration of life for Sequim resident Mary Emily Breen will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Carrie Blake Park, on Blake Avenue in Sequim.

Mrs. Breen died June 7, 2009, at the age of 77.

She was born May 1, 1932, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Solomon Beryl and Clarissa Bell Emly Kunkel.

She married Everett P. Breen on July 9, 1971, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Seattle.

She earned a bachelor's degree in teaching at Whitworth College in Spokane and taught elementary school in Spokane for 17 years and in Seattle for 14 years.

Mrs. Breen was a traveler, going to Germany, Great Britain, Budapest, Hungary and Prague, Czechoslovakia. She traveled with the Westminster church choir and took a Caribbean cruise. She also was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for many years and at one time held the position of state historian.

She is survived by her husband, Everett Breen; brother Bruce Kunkel; sisters Francis Beryl Dawkins, Claire Wilkes and Martha Clure; and 16 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a niece.

Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.



Helen M. Rotter

A celebration of life was held for former Sequim resident Helen M. Rotter, who died June 7, 2009, in Bremerton, at the age of 83 of congestive heart failure.

She was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Todd County, Long Prairie, Minn., to Jefferson and Leslie Robbin Denniston.

She attended school in Clarissa, Minn., then moved to Bremerton in 1943 to reside with her sister and brother-in-law Durwood and

Hope Yager.

She married Richard "R.J." Rotter on March 3, 1944, in Port Orchard.

Mrs. Rotter lived in Montgomery, Minn., with her in-laws George and Rose Rotter while her husband was in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater.

The Rotters returned to Bremerton in 1945 and she worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during the war years. She also worked as a meat wrapper and checker, retiring in 1971.

The Rotters moved to

Sequim in 1984 where she was active at the Sequim Senior Activity Center and the Irrigation Festival and a member of the Eagles No. 4171 and VFW 4760 auxiliaries. She enjoyed cooking, planning annual reunions, reading cookbooks, sewing, camping, dancing and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Connie and Harry Birkenfeld and Carol and Desmond Hartnell; son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Karen Rotter; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband "R.J." Rotter; brothers Donald, Jim and Aaron Denniston; sisters Joyce Denniston, Thelma Bass and Hope Yager; and brother-in-law Leslie Bass.



Orlando 'Lanny'

Denning

At his request, no service will be held for Sequim resident Orlando "Lanny" Denning, who died June 12, 2009, at the age of 83.

He was born July 26, 1925, in Park, Kan., to Augustine and Emmarence Linnenberger Denning.

He served in the United States Navy.

He married Gwendolyn Denning on June 26, 1999.

Mr. Denning was a retired carpenter from San Mateo, Calif. He worked for the county of San Mateo.

He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Denning; son Gregory Denning of Nevada City, Calif.; daughter Julie Ann Forde of Catati, Calif.; brother Emmanuel Denning of Sequim; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by brothers Al, Melvin, Syirl, and LeRoy; sisters Fabiola, Alma and Viola; granddaughter Tiffany Denning; two nephews; and one niece.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Clallam County.



Vern Edward Boyd

A private family service will be held for Port Angeles resident Vern Edward Boyd, who died June 16, 2009, at the age of 54 of cancer.

He was born July 12, 1954, in Port Angeles to Jesse Lee Boyd and Juanita J. Shomar Boyd.

Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
