Tyler Henry Braithwaite

Tyler Henry Braithwaite, age 17, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident near Slab Camp in Sequim. He was born February 1, 1993, in Port Angeles to Tammy (Hughes) Sullenger and Henry Braithwaite.
A life-long resident, Tyler attended Sequim High School where he was in his junior year and very involved in the automotive program. Tyler had a personality as big as his 6 foot 3 inch frame and enjoyed living life to its fullest with his friends and family.
An avid outdoors men, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and walks on all of the local beaches. He could often be found riding off-road dirt bikes and working on engines of all types with his best friends and brothers, Christopher and Michael Fleming as well as family. Tyler spent a lot of time with his cousins, Dillon and Tanner target shooting and fishing. He enjoyed all kinds of music...played loud, and would sing along with his friends while driving around town.
Tyler enjoyed pranks and was always looking for the next victim.
His pride and joy was riding his late grandfather Roger's 2006 Harley Davidson Dyna Bob with his dad Henry, and the Band of Brothers MC.
Tyler was passionate about anything automotive and often worked on the engines of his trucks and motorcycles that he owned as well as that of his friends.
But most of all, Tyler was a gentle soul with a beautiful smile who did not know a stranger and always had an extended hand and open heart for anyone that needed it. Tyler will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Tammy (Hughes) and Scott Sullenger; his father, Henry Braithwaite; brothers and best friends, Christopher and Michael Fleming; paternal grandmother Pat Braithwaite; maternal grandparents Carol and Bill Hughes; maternal great-grandparents, Tom and Delores Blore; aunts Rebecca Grant and Stacy Braithwaite; uncles Bryan Hughes (Angela), and Sean Norbisrath; and 23 cousins.
Tyler was preceded in death by grandfather Roger Braithwaite.
Services will be held on April 10, 2010, at 1:00 in the Sequim High School Auditorium with a reception following at the Sequim Community School.

ADRIAN CORNELIUS VAN SON
APRIL 23,1919 ~ MARCH 19, 2010
Adrian Cornelius Van Son, born April 23, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Cornelius and Clasina Van Son, passed away March 19, 2010 in Pensacola, Florida.
The oldest of seven children, he is survived by brother, John Van Son, and sisters, Mary Hans and Jo Miller. He was preceded in death by sisters Nellie Crowley, Willie Huddleson and Elizabeth Van Son. He was a really good big brother.
He married Mary Smulders on February 7, 1943 in Bell, California. They recently celebrated 67 years of a wonderful marriage.
Daughters, Lynne Hall (Larry) and Elaine Williams (Belie) have many, many great memories of camping and vacationing up and down the West Coast with their dad and mom. He was the best father and father-in-law in the world.
His grandchildren; Mark, Jeff and Regina Hall; and Adrienne Taylor and Scott Williams were blessings in his life. Twelve great-grandchildren: Maddie, Gabby, Helen, Maggie, Adam, Grace, Gherit, Ann Marie and Amanda, Jaylin, Keeley and Chayton will miss him dearly.
For ten years (1951-1961), in Pico Rivera, CA, he led Boy Scout Troop 941. As a young man, he followed his father into the Knights of Columbus. A former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Sequim, WA, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Gulf Breeze, FL.
A member of the Elks Lodge, long time supporters of the Boys and Girls Club, in Sequim, Adrian was named Man of the Year in recognition of the many hours he spent collecting aluminum cans to raise more than $30,000 for the club.
For many years he owned a woodworking company in Sequim. Many of his customers became lifelong friends. He was a master carpenter, who could build anything you could draw. Adrian built numerous houses and sets of kitchen cabinets. He also blessed his family with custom furniture and boxes. He loved to make boxes.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, located at 100 Daniel Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 417 of St. Ann's Parish at the address above.
Ray Schmuck
On March 19, 2010, Linus Ray Schmuck completed his Christian journey to be welcomed into the loving arms of God.
Ray was born in Port Angeles, WA on September 30,1934, to Audra and Ernie Schmuck. Ray lived most of his life in the Sequim area. His career took him in many directions, a bookkeeper, printer, publisher, a businessman of many ventures. Ray was never one to be afraid of challenges and risk, a hard worker to provide for his family.
In 1955 Ray married Nancy Jarvis and they became parents to five Schmuck children. Gennie Sprague Smith and Ray married in 1968, and together, they started Ray-Gen Printing which later became Sequim Valley Stationers. For 30 years, Ray and Gennie proudly shared information of their beloved home town Sequim as publishers of the Sequim-Dungeness Directory. Gennie passed away in 1994.
Ray enjoyed travelling, especially train trips to explore the beauty of our country. His favorite place to travel was to the Oregon Coast with his little sister, Lo Ann.
Upon discovering the joy of a bread machine, loaves of bread became Ray's calling card. Delivering freshly baked loaves to friends, sharing a joke or a long story, Ray was a true ambassador of humor.
Strong and steadfast in his convictions as a Christian, Ray shared his love of the Lord. He reached out to help others, especially the elderly, whether shopping, running errands, visiting the ill, or bringing fellowship to nursing home services, Ray was a caregiver. Being of German descent, the name Schmuck means "jewel or ornament." Ray Schmuck was indeed that, a treasure of a man to those who knew him.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gennie, and step-son Victor Smith. Ray is survived by his loving and faithful feline companion, "Purla." Also, his uncle Jim Bena, sisters Janis & Bob Thomsen, Carmen & John Jarvis, Lo Ann & Lonnie Linn and their families. Stepchildren and their families include Ron & Jeri Smith, Dan & Diana Smith, and Judy Smith. Ray's five children, Lynnea Tucker & Jerry, Deb Ward & Randy, Duane & Marsha Schmuck, Janet & Steve Skinner, and his baby girl, Cheryl & Steve Snodgrass. They, along with their families, will so deeply miss him. Ray's "Grand-brats" as he lovingly called them include Stacy, Brian, Michael, Brandi, Dustin, Daniel, Angelique, Cerena, Jamie, Wendy, Cody, and Jesse. Great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews are numerous, all sharing love and joyful memories.
In honoring Ray's passion, in lieu of flowers his family requests you simply share a piece of chocolate with someone you care about. A bench in rememberence of a "Job Well Done" will be placed along the Olympic Discovery Trail in Ray Schmuck's honor.

Joan Foster Lieseke
At her request, there will be no services for Sequim resident Joan Foster Lieseke, who died March 19, 2010, at the age of 71.
She was born July 1, 1938, to Elmer and Lois Long Foster. Her grandfather was one of the first pioneering homesteaders of Kingston, where she grew up.
She married Donald Lieseke in December 1967. She retired in 2006 from the Highway 101 Diner, where she loved teasing co-workers and special customers.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; son and daughter-in-law Randy and Karla Bynum of Kingston; daughters and son-in-law Debbie and Joseph Coates of Port Townsend and Vicki Bynum of Sequim; brothers and sisters-in-law John and Thelma and Jerry and Jana Foster; sister and brother-in-law Dianne and Darwin Johnston, all of Kingston; grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nephews and nieces.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Olympic Cancer Center, 844 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim, WA 98382.
Helen Mae Larson
A celebration of life was held for Sequim resident Helen Mae Larson, who died March 24, 2010, at the age of 69.
She was born March 3, 1941, in Douglas, Ariz., to Smith and Charlotte Childers Langston.
She married Carl D. Larson in 1959, and the couple raised their six children in Poulsbo.
A devoted homemaker and mother, Mrs. Larson enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was known for the numerous handmade gifts she gave.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Smith and Tanya of Puyallup, sons James and Lance, both of Poulsbo; daughters and son-in-law, Destinie and Tony Towne of Poulsbo and Stacy Callahan of Albany, N.Y.; sister, Ellen, of Yakima; brothers and sister-in-law Duke and Pat of Roswell, N.M., and Lee and Rowena of Lima, Peru; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Deloy Larson; son Carl Wesley Larson; sisters Edna and Jody; and brother Joseph.
